Schools Won't Open Until Crops Harvested, Says Superintendent Webb, Aug. 14, 1923

Dates Not Fixed in County Schools. . . Date Depends on the Time of Harvesting Crops

No dates have been fixed as yet for the opening of the fall term in any of the county schools, it was said today at the office of the county superintendent. These dates will be named several weeks in advance of the opening in each school, however, so as to give ample notification to pupils and parents, it was said.

Prof. Webb, Superintendent of the schools, stated that the date of opening was largely determined by the harvesting of crops, which enables the children to enter school. The crops being later in some parts of the county than in others, said Prof. Webb, accounts for all of the schools not opening on the same date.

Prof. Webb has been diligent in securing teachers for the next term, and as soon as the list is completed the Public Ledger will be glad to publish it.
