Million Dollar Loss in Charlotte Fire, Dec. 17, 1923

Charlotte Fire Loss Estimated at $1,000,000. . . This Estimate Made by State Fire Marshall Brockwell After Investigation

Raleigh, Dec. 17—Stacey W. Wade, state insurance commissioner, after being in communication today with Sherwood Brockwell, state fire marshal, of the department at Charlotte, announced that a preliminary report from Mr. Brockwell estimated the loss in the Charlotte fire last night to be about $1,000,000. Mr. Brockwell spoke in the highest terms of the work of the fire fighters of Charlotte and those of nearby towns who assisted them.
