William Ashley Sunday

Born Ames, Ia., November 19, 1863; son of William and Mary Jane (Cory) Sunday; Educated High School, Nevada, Iowa; Student Northwestern University; D.D. Westminster, College, New Wilmington, Pa., 1912; Married Helen A. Thompson of Chicago September 5, 1888. Was professional baseball player 1883-90, in the Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia teams of the National League. Asst. Sec. Y.M.C.A., Chicago, 1891-5; evangelist since 1896 received from 1,000 to 5,000 converts per month, 1904-7, and since that time has been engaged continuously in evangelist services, meeting with remarkable success in principal cities of U.S.; ordained Presbyterian ministry by Chicago Presbytery, April 15, 1903; elected April 1918 by Chicago Presbytery as delegate to General Assembly of Presbyterian church, U.S.A., Columbus, Ohio, May 1918.
