In the sudden death Saturday night of Tola D. Maness, Concord lost one of her most successful and most prominent citizens. Coming to this city as a young lawyer, Mr. Maness built up an enviable reputation as a trial lawyer, and his counsel was sought in practically all of the more important legal battles waged here during the past 15 years.
Although his large practice claimed much of his time Mr. Maness found opportunity to devote of his talents and energies to all civic projects and he was recognized by all as one of Concord’s most diligent civic workers. His Church also received liberally of his money and time, and at the time of his death he was Chairman of the Board of Deacons and teacher of the Men’s Bible Class in the First Baptist Church.
His death is a distinct loss to Concord.
