Raleigh, Nov. 7 (AP)—Alvin Mansel, sentenced to electrocution at Asheville Wednesday for an attack on a white woman, was delivered to the state prison early today by deputy sheriffs of Buncombe county.
G. Lyle Jones, speaking for the defense this morning, contended a complete alibi had been established by Neely and that the white woman who accused him of the crime was mistaken in her identification. Several witnesses testified that Neely was at work at the time the alleged crime was committed.
The trial of 46 members of a mob that stormed the Buncombe County jail on the night of September 22 will start in Superior Court Monday morning, Solicitor Swain announced today. A majority of them have been at liberty under bonds of $2,500 each, although several unable to supply bond are in jail awaiting trial.
