Two Convicts Escape O'Neals Camp, Nov. 10, 1925

Convicts Escape from O’Neals. . . Two Prisoners Make Complete Get-Away; Trailed Until Past Midnight

Mr. Lee Hocutt was in the city Saturday and told us that two convicts, Clyde Strickland and Faircloth, made their escape from the O’Neals convict camp Friday afternoon about 4 o’clock. Mr. Hocutt was among the 40 or 50 persons who followed the trail of the fleeing prisoners until pass midnight. They went into Nash county, and the trail was lost when apparently the escaping men got on an automobile, Strickland was serving an 18-month term on the roads, and Faircloth was serving a two-year term.

About 25 convicts have been in O’Neals township for the past five weeks, and according to Mr. Hocutt, have been doing some good road work. They began yesterday to work on the highway from Henderson to Smithfield and on to Clinton. This road lies in O’Neals township for 12.8 miles.

The convicts are scheduled to go to Boon Hill township when the work is done in O’Neals.
