James Hay Jr., former Washington newspaper man and writer, now a resident of Asheville, who was sued for an absolute divorce by Mrs. Lindsay Walker Hay, his first wife, denied in his answer filed in equity court here today that Mrs. Hay has stated a case for action.
Mrs. Maude Larrick Hay, second wife, was named a co-defendant, but Hay says that his marriage of July 19, 1922, was valid He also says that he divorced the plaintiff in Buncombe county on July 11, 1922. He also declared his first wife ordered him away from her after treating him in a cruel and barbarous manner.
