Rural Church of the Year for 1953

Red Oak Christian Church, Greenville, Route 2, has been named Rural Church of the Year in North Carolina in the Town and Country Church Development Program.

Nine other rural North Carolina churches were selected for cash awards and honorable mention certificates. In all, about 200 North Carolina churches participated in the program administered by the Town and Country School of Emory University, Atlanta.

As first place winner, Red Oak Christian Church will receive $500 with a chance to win a second $500 and the title of Rural Church of the Year in the South.

L.R. Harrill, State 4-H Club leader and chairman of the program in North Carolina, announced the state winners after their selection by a committee comprised of outstanding rural community leaders.

The four second place winners, recipients of $100 cash awards, are: Prospect Presbyterian Church, Mooresville, Route 3; Patterson Springs Baptist Church, Patterson Springs; Lewisville Methodist Episcopal Church, Lewisville; Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, State Road.

Winners of honorable mention are: Marvin Methodist Church, Waxhaw, Route 3; McLure Memorial Presbyterian Church, Castle Hayne; Round Hill Baptist Church, Union Mills; Pleasant Grove Methodist Episcopal Church, Rozzell’s Ferry Road, Charlotte; and Stanhope Methodist Episcopal Church, Spring Hope.
