Postal Banks in Small
Cities
Beverly, Mass., Special—Postmaster General Hitchcock has
made a preliminary report to President Taft regarding the plans for the
institution of postal savings banks in different parts of the country in the
near future. The experimental banks will be located in the smaller cities.
Sufficient money to establish the system in cities like New York, Chicago,
Philadelphia, Boston and other great centers is not yet available. There is
also a desire to perfect the system through the experiments in the smaller
communities before an attempt is made to open up the metropolitan branches.
