Laurara McIntyre Shares Forest City News, 1952


“Number of Forest City Parents Attend Carver High Parents’ Day; Local and Personals” by Mrs. Laurara Edna McEntyre, from the April 1, 1952 issue of The Carolina News, Forest City, N.C.
The parents and patrons of Forest City attending parents’ day at Carver High on Thursday, March 27 were as follows: Mrs. Bessie Kate Dawkins, Miss Rosie Rogers, Mrs. Rubie Mae Elliot and Mrs. Laurara Edna McEntyre. It was really an enjoyable day, everybody had a lovely time. Please parents, let’s attend PTA and get better acquainted and do a greater work. Plenty had been accomplished and there is still more to do.
Oak Grove Baptist was well represented at Henrietta Baptist Church Sunday night, March 30th.
Mrs. Maggie Hill and Mamie Surratt sponsored the 12 tribes of Israel, which was very spiritual and a complete success.
Mr. and Mrs. James Petty and family have moved from Forest City to Spindale.
Mrs. Rosa Lee Kirkendall left Saturday, March 29, for a week’s visit with her mother, Mrs. Lucy Kirkendall in Rome, Tenn.
Phyllis and Reginal Pruitt are back home after a week’s stay in South Carolina with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson.
The Missionary group of Oak Grove Baptist Church is sponsoring an all-day Easter Program and rally basket dinner. You are cordially invited to attend. Mrs. Estelle Hogan, chairman, Mrs. Pearly Wood, president, Mrs. Laurara McEntyre and Mrs. Maude Thompson, co-workers.
Mother Elliot, who has been very sick, is improving nicely.
The representatives of Carver High PTA held their committee meeting in the home of Mrs. Laurara McEntyre. Those present were Mrs. Ossie B. Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kelly, and son, and niece, Mrs. Bessie Kate Dawkins, Mrs. Georgia Landrum and Mrs. Rubie Mae Elliott. Refreshments of chocolate cake and orange sherbet were served and enjoyed by all.
Mrs. Fred Thompson’s mother from Marion is visiting her.
The Quarterly Sunday School convention of the Gold Hill Association convened March 29-30 at Friendship Church in Ellenboro. Delegates from Oak Grove were Horace Thompson, Barbara J. McEntyre, Joe Anne (can’t read) went along. They had a nice time. It was mentioned that each church will sponsor one night’s revival to help finance a scholarship for the Bible school.
Mrs. Vinnie Smith has asked Forest City to attend an all-night meeting in Campobello, S.C., Saturday night, April 12. Rev. Goodley, Evangelist.
There will be a weight rally at the home of Mrs. Annie Edwards Friday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. A prize will be given to the fattest and thinnest person there. Each person is asked to bring a penny per pound for his or her weight. The rally is for the building of St. Luke Holiness Church.
Mrs. Orleen Griffin and Donald Lee and Derrick Marrim of Chicago, Ill., are visiting her parents and their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Watkins.
The women of the Hendersonville Holiness Church are having an Easter program April 13 at 3 p.m. Louise and Pearlie Cannon will appear on the program. The pastor, Rev. and Mrs. N.L. Cannon attending.

Mrs. McEntyre Joins Staff
Mrs. Laurara Edna McEntyre of Forest City, former of Indiana, has joined the News staff from Forest City. Mrs. McEntyre is an active church, P-T-A and a general community leader, and it is with pride that we acknowledge her recent addition to our staff.
