4 North Carolinians KIA, 13 More Wounded Severely, Oct. 4, 1918 Casualty List

Washington, Oct. 4—Included in the names of 973 men in the three casualty lists released today by the army and navy appear 17 of North Carolina’s men, as follows:

Killed in Action

Pvt. Sam Shirley of Walstonburg
Pvt. William C Bradshaw of Salisbury

Wounded Severely

Sergt. Eugene A. Hessee of Durham
Sergt. Gilbert B. White of Trinity
Corp. Thomas T. Hamilton of Etowab
Corp. Alph D.K. Wallace of Ruth
Pvt. James H. Medlin of Moncure
Pvt. Ben Oakley of Sandy Ridge
Pvt. Jesse E. Van Dyke of Cherryville
Pvt. Ernest N White of Hertford
Pvt. Wiley Summer of Conway
Pvt. Millard E. Forbes of Ahoskie
Pvt. Coy Hinson of Lansing
Pvt. Herman E Higgins of Smithfield
Pvt. Stuart F. Spivey of Tabor.

The total losses show that 104 men will killed in action, 172 missing in action, 583 wounded severely, 69 died of wounds, 1 died of an aeroplane accident, 6 died of accident and other causes, 24 died of disease, 12 wounded to a degree undetermined, and 2 slightly wounded.
