A small, one-roomed store building on White street near the city incinerator, in Groveton, was burned to the ground early Monday morning. Firemen were called from their beds at 4:15 o’clock by an alarm from Box 415. When they arrived, the fire had virtually wrecked the building. Difficulty was found in getting a stream of water as the nearest hydrant was several blocks away.
At 8:30 o’clock the fire company was called at Mint and Hill street when the roof of a store owned by J.H. Bennett caught fire, shingles catching from sparks from the flue. The damage there was slight.
