News has been received here of the serious injury of Mr. Benton Pleasant, of Pleasant Grove, which occurred last Thursday. Mr. Pleasant, who owns a store, was having a settlement with Martin Fish, a white man, when the latter became enraged about some misunderstanding concerning the account and severely cut Mr. Pleasant.
Medical aid was summoned and it was found that the injuries were serious. At last reports Mr. Pleasant was not expected to live.
Fish was brought here to jail Friday to await trial. He is about 50 years old.
