Governor Grants Stay in Execution of W.A. Carter, Sept. 23, 1924

W. Austin Carter Gains a Respite

Governor Morrison Friday granted a respite in the case of W. Austin Carter, convicted wife murderer of Reidsville.

Mr. Carter was to be executed on September 26th, but now his attorneys, headed by P.W. Glidewell, have secured for him a new lease of life, to November 15th.

In the meantime, it will be determined whether the case will be taken to the Supreme Court or placed entirely in the hands of the Governor, hoping thereby to have the death penalty set aside and life imprisonment substituted.
