Burlington, Aug. 7—“There is one thing a man must do if he lives in Burlington, or leaves a wife here, and that is support her.”
That was the declaration of Mayor E. B. Horner today when he gave out a statement for publication that police would begin an immediate investigation of several cases in which the husband is believed not to be “doing his durndest” to provide life’s necessities.
“We have information on several cases where able-bodied men are doing nothing while in some instances, women in ill health are at work to keep the family pantry as well as provided as they can,” the Mayor declared.
He described the situation as one he had been thinking about considerably, and now had arrived at the point of determination to stamp it out.
