Willie Crotts, 21, Leaving Shelby, Afraid People Want to Kill Him, Aug. 11, 1925

Boy, Off in Head, Feared Being Killed

Friday Sheriff Logan and other officers at the court house were somewhat puzzled by a youth who appeared there and told the officers that someone was trying to kill them. After an investigation it was found that the boy, Willie Crotts, was mentally deficient and was suffering from a hallucination. It was his theory that a man dressed like a Klansman followed by a gang was seeking him so that they might kill him.

The boy’s home is in Cowpens, S.C., but, it is said, he has been on a visit in this county. Another peculiarity about the boy is that his hair is gray although he is only 21 years of age. After being assured that no one would harm him, the youth departed the court house with the apparent intention of returning to Cowpens.
