Dramatic Climax W.B. Cole Says He Shot Bill Ormond, Oct. 5, 1925

The Dramatic Climax

T.M. Pridgen in Charlotte Observer

Rockingham, Oct. 2—W.B. Cole said: “Bill Ormond flushed. He turned to a death pallor. I felt that I was staring into the very face of death. He sprang for his car. I knew he was an army man and had been trained to shoot quick, to shoot hard and straight. I ran for the car. As I ran I made sure it was Bill. I shot. His right hand grasped my revolver. His left hand was reaching for my gun. He was about to twist my gun from me and I pulled the trigger twice without knowing where the muzzle was pointed. I felt his hand relax.”

This statement, somewhat condensed, was the climax of the millionaire manufacturer’s strange story of how and why he killed Bill Ormond, his daughter’s former suitor, in two hours and 18 minutes of testimony here this afternoon.
