Fight Leaves Both Men in Serious Condition, Oct. 21, 1925

Dave Townson and Ben Posey Fight on Streets in Murphy

Tri-County News, October 16

Ben Posey and W.T. Townson, both of Murphy, are said to be in serious condition as a result of a fight they had on the street here last Wednesday night.

Posey, it is said, was dealt a hard blow to the head with a stick by Townson, and Townson was badly cut on the throat and one shoulder with a knife by Posey.

The trouble, it is said, arose about Posey walking up the street with Townson’s wife.

From the front page of the Jackson County Journal, Sylva, N.C., Oct. 21, 1925. The last name of one of the men was spelled “Posey” four times and “Bosey” a single time, so I’ve spelled it Posey in this post, but am including this note in case it was supposed to be Bosey in the original article.
