Jeanne Robeson, Senior at Smith College, Found Dead, Nov. 13, 1925

Carolina Girl Is Killed at College. . . Miss Jeanne M. Robeson of Elizabethtown Accidentally Killed by Gas at Smith College

Northampton, Mass., Nov. 13 (AP)—Miss Jeanne M. Robeson of Elizabethtown, N.C., a senior at Smith College, was found dead today in the kitchenet of her dormitory Park House. Death was due to accidental asphyxiation, according to Medical Examiner Edward A. Brown, who was called by Miss Jean Wilie, the matron.

Miss Robeson was a daughter of Dr. John A. Robeson, a physician. She had planned to attend the Yale-Princeton football game tomorrow, and went into the kitchenet last night to press some clothes in preparation for her trip to New Haven. It was believed she turned on the gas in a small two-burner stove and either tripped and fell or fainted before she put a match to the jet. It was believed she was unconscious throughout the night and died early this morning. Miss Robeson was popular among the students in Smith College and was in good health.

From the front page of the Concord Daily Tribune, Friday, Nov. 13, 1925. The story spelled her last name as Robertson in one instance, but Roberson in all others.
