From the July 2, 1934, issue of the Burlington Times-News

Mebane Legion Post Will Have Barbecue and Street Dance . . . Barbecue Will Be Sold But No Charge for Dance; Legionnaires Are Building Hut

The Legionnaires of Mebane Post No. 95 will again this year stage their annual 4th of July street dance and barbecue. The barbecue will be served from 5 o’clock in the afternoon until 9. The street dance will start at 9. There will be no charge for the dance this year, and the largest crowd of dancers to ever attend this annual event is expected on hand by the Mebane Legionnaires.

The post is building a hut as a home for the Legionnaires of the Mebane community and the money realized from the sale of barbecue will be applied on the Legion’s building fund.

The public is cordially invited to attend this celebration of the Mebane post. S.E. Compton, commander of the post, states that a good orchestra has been engaged to play for the street dance, and a good time is assured for everyone attending.
