Can You Imagine Traveling Four Miles a Minute, Wonders Newspaper Editor, 1922

From the editorial page of the Rockingham Post-Dispatch, October 19, 1922

Just think of moving through the air at a rate of 248 miles an hour! A mile a minute is going some, but when you realize that 248 miles an hour means over four miles per minute, the mind can scarcely grasp the fact. That is what happened in the airplane races at Mount Clemons, Michigan, last Monday. Lt. R.L. Maughan, U.S. army pilot, set this world’s record by covering a one-kilometer course. The machine is a Curtiss army biplane, with a 400-horsepower Curtiss engine. Man is ever striving for new feats and records.
