Lucky Community Spared Influenza; Quarantines Itself From Surrounding Towns, 1918

“No Influenza at Fassifern“ by Evelyn Byrd Graham, from the French Broad Hustler, Hendersonville, Thursday, Oct. 24, 1918.

Saturday evening the students gave an entertainment to raise enough money for another Liberty Loan Bond. They went “over the top” in their efforts and are to be congratulated upon their success.

One evening in each week has been set aside in which the faculty and students will work for the Red Cross beside those who are giving all of their spare time to knitting for the soldiers.

The school congratulates itself upon the fact that there have been no cases of Spanish influenza among the students or faculty. We are one of three schools in the State in which there has been no influenza. Miss Shipp and Mrs. McBee have taken every precaution to prevent this dreaded disease in school. The school is quarantined against Hendersonville and the surrounding towns until the epidemic is entirely over.
