More News of Interest From Roanoke Island

Manteo Bay now has a long needed aid for navigation in a new red beacon that has just been erected by the U.S. Lighthouse Department on the inside of the harbor.

The two Baptist Churches on the island have recently acquired a parsonage, which has been remodeled at a cost of about $5,000. The handsome new building of the Bank of Manteo is now ready for occupancy, after a little delay in installing the fixtures which were delayed in transit.

Several new homes are going up in town and many others are being repaired.

The People’s Ice & Storage Company has built the foundation for its new ice plant, which is expected to be in operation about September 1. Dare County people are showing much interest in the new plant, which is much needed in the county.

Many people from other sections of the state are visiting the island for the first time this summer.

J.B. Daily, local contractors, is expected to start work soon on a Coast Guard Station at Little Island, Va., Mr. Daily having recently got the contract for a little over $21,000.

Many are attending the meeting of the fisheries board at Morehead City this week, as the question of removing nets from certain sections of Pamlico Sound is of much local interest.

The Methodist Church here have just remodeled their parsonage and have given it a new coat of paint.
