Mrs. Estes Dies—Savannah News

Margarete Cope Estes was born September 3rd, 1844, was married to J.E. Estes January 14th, 1866. To this union were born 12 children, 9 boys and three girls. One son died quite young. She professed faith in Christ and joined the Old Savannah Baptist church January 23, 1890. She lived a most consecrated Christian until the end, which came Sunday morning, April 6th, 1924.

Mrs. Estes had been in ill health for some time but was thought to be better until a few days before the end came. She leaves behind her 11 children, 2 brothers and a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. J.E. Estes, the father and husband, was called away about 12 years ago. As a christian, a neighbor and a mother, being a standard bearer in the home and community, she will be sorely missed. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. R.W. Green. She was laid to rest in the Old Savannah cemetery to await the dawn of the resurrection morn.

Mr. and Mrs. Andy Estes and children, of Whittier, attended the funeral of Mr. Estes’ mother, here Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Estes and Miss Leona Green of Sylva attended the funeral of Mr. Estes’ mother, Mrs. Margarete Estes, Monday.

Messrs. Kirk, Robert, and Bill Clink Estes of Macon attended the funeral of their mother here Monday.

Mr. Seib Estes of Gastonia was called home Monday on account of the death of his mother.

Mr. and Mrs. N.E. Hyatt of Asheville spent the week end with Mrs. Hyatt’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Felix Ashe.

The Misses Cagle motored to Cullowhee Sunday.

Misses Eliza and Norma Lee Hyatt of Whittier spent the week end with Miss Hicks Ashe.

Miss Isabelle Sutton of Georgia is spending some time with relatives here.

Mr. Chas. Ashe left Tuesday for Washington, where he will stay for some time.

Mr. and Mrs. Aldon Buchanan ?? Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Green.

Mrs. Candler Sutton and little son are visiting her daughter, Mrs. ?? Hay in Georgia.

Mrs. L.L. Moody and children of Waynesville spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Ashe.

Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Morgan and daughters, Lula and Minnie, of Cullowhee attended the funeral of Mrs. Estes here Monday.

Mr. T.K. Sutton spent the week end in Whittier.

Mr. and Mrs. Leamon Morgan of Cullowhee attended the funeral of Mrs. Estes Here Monday.

Mrs. C.H. Ashe is visiting her parents at Gay.

Mrs. Rufus Buchanan spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Gribble at Gay.
