Castaldo Held for Carrying Diamonds Around Greensboro, May 24, 1924

Carries Wealth Around Loose in His Pockets. . . Italian Arrested in Greensboro with $10,000 Worth of Gems on His Person

Greensboro, May 23—C. Castaldo, an Italian who gave his address as 19 East 127th street, New York city, was arrested here today with about $10,000 worth of diamonds loose in his pockets, according to police, He is being held for investigation.

Capt. J.C. Current, assistant chief of police, received information that a man was trying to sell diamonds here and located him on the street. When the gem merchant attempted to sell the plain-clothes man a diamond, the latter suggested they go to his office to discuss the matter. Castaldo came willingly and Current led the way to the police station.

The gems were offered for sale at prices ranging from $500 to $1,000 each, the police said. They have communicated with New York in an effort to find out something about the man.
