Automobile Mechanic Injured When Gas Tank Explodes, June 4, 1924

Injured by Tank Explosion

Raleigh, N.C., June 4—R.R. Summers, automobile mechanic of this city, was in the hospital today as the results of injuries received when the gasoline tank of the car on which he was working, exploded. At the hospital it could not be determined the extent of Summers’ injuries until complete x-ray pictures had been made. However, it was stated that his shoulder was badly cut and that there was a possibility that his head was hurt.

The mechanic stated that the explosion was caused by the hot air from the exhaust pipe igniting the fumes from the gas tank.
