102-Year-Old In Trouble With Law, April 7, 1925

Negro Centenarian in Tolls of the Law

Wilmington, April 6—William James, 102-years-old negro, who claims to be the father of 80 children, was arrested with his 65-year-old wife here last night charged with operating a moonshine still in his hut but in an alley. The distilling outfits were also seized. James says he was born a slave on a Brunswick county plantation in 1823, and came to Wilmington 70 years ago.
