Rev. and Mrs. E.W. Hurst Jr. entertained the members of the Poplar Branch and Coinjock Epworth Leagues at their home near Popular Branch Friday evening, February 20th.
The guests were welcomed at the door by the host and hostess. Before entering the parlor, each was given a card. On which they were asked to write, “In what way would you like to be a George Washington.” These answers were read during the party, and were the source of much enjoyment.
As this was a George Washington Birthday social, games were played which pertained to George Washington, one of which was a contest to see who could get the most words from the name George Washington. The person getting the most words was Roscoe Baum. He made a three-minute talk on “The Life of George Washington.”
Other interesting games were played, after which refreshments were served by Mesdames Carrie Gregory, Beulah Litchfield, Alice Midgett and Ruth Brumsey.
Those who enjoyed the evening were: Misses Annie Bell, Beatrice O’Neal, Mildren (Mildred?) Brodie, Louise Van Tassel, V. and Mattie Midgette, Frances Stanton, Vivian and Pearle Hampton, Margarete Fentress, Linda and Blanche Walker, Rosalie Doxie, Kathryn Simmons, Edith White, Ethel Gregory, Juanita Vale and Ruth Bray; Messrs. Oreon and Roscoe Baum, Clyde Doxey, Norman and Sanford Gregory and John Litchfield.
