Suspected Smokehouse Thief Walks into Sheriff's Trap, July 12, 1925

Suspected Smokehouse Thief Captured

Later last night, after the article below was in type, Sheriff Grant notified the News that a negro man, whose name was not learned, had returned to the place where the nine pieces of meat were hidden, and was arrested by Deputies Thomas and Ardner, assisted by Messrs. Bob Vinson and Ross Smith of the neighborhood, who were aiding in the efforts to apprehend the thief.

An epidemic of smokehouse robberies struck New Hope township last week, three occurring within four days. On Tuesday night, thieves stole a large quantity of meat from Mrs. B.A. Parks; on Thursday night Mr. George Smith suffered a similar loss, and early Saturday morning the smokehouse of Mrs. Jim Tyndall, widow, was stripped of all its meat.

Within a few hours of the Tyndall robbery, a negro, carrying a sack containing three pieces of meat, was stopped by Mr. Marshall Adams, who questioned him as to where he obtained it. Upon being pressed too closely, the man dropped the bag and fled. When he learned of Mrs. Tyndall’s loss, Mr. Adams, convinced that the meat belonged other, returned it. The tye love khrdododiolon found is a patch of woods near the Tyndall home. [Sentence doesn't make sense] This cache is being guarded, and Sheriff Grant stated that he hoped to catch the thief when he returned for his loot.
