Jane Wilson, 88, Died Nov. 7, 1925

Death of Mrs. Jane Wilson

Mrs. Jane Wilson, wife of the late Thomas M. Wilson, died November 7, 1925. She was born January 7, 1837, being 88 years 10 months old. She was the last survivor of 12 children. She was Miss Jane Roberts before her marriage, about 65 years ago, and was a daughter of George Roberts and Sally Payne Roberts. Her grandparents on each side were among the early settlers on Sandy Much and Pine Creek and were of English and Welsh descent. At one time they were very large landowners.

Mrs. Wilson joined the Baptist Church about 45 years ago and has always been known for her lovable traits of character and her refined and beautiful disposition.

She was a devoted wife and mother, always charitable and kind, a good neighbor and especially fond of her children. She had a large circle of relatives and friends who mourn her loss.

She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Eliza Dockery, Warren, N.C., August Wilson, R-5 Marshall, N.C., General Wilson, Asheville, N.C., Mrs. John Bailey and James Wilson, R-5 Marshall, N.C.

She has made her home for the past 15 years with Mr. and Mrs. James Wilson and had the very best attention during her old age and last illness.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Nov. 9 by Rev. J.H. McCurry and Rev. Everette Sprinkle. Both made beautiful and appropriate talks, Rev. McCurry having known here for a good many years.

She was laid to rest in the family cemetery overlooking her home beside her husband who died in 1920.

There were many beautiful floral offerings.

It is estimated that more than 500 people were at the funeral.

She was a sister of the late Garrison Roberts who lived on Sandy Mush and James Roberts of Pine Creek, who died about 25 years ago and Mrs. Emiline Rogers of Leicester, who died about two years ago.

“I heard a voice you cannot hear,

Which bids me not to stay;

I see a hand you cannot see

Which beckons me away.”
