Major Bowman to Stand Trial for Criminal Attack on 9-Year-Old Girl, Nov. 18, 1925

True Bill Is Returned Against Major Bowman. . . Special Venire Ordered from Which to Select Jury for Trial of Hickory Man

Newton, Nov. 17—A true bill was returned today against Major W.V. Bowman of Hickory, charged with a criminal attack upon the 9-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Moore, also of Hickory. He was arraigned this afternoon and a special venire ordered for the trial of the case sometime this week.

Major Bowman was commander of the Hickory cavalry and is well known throughout this part of the state. This case has attracted statewide attention.

Other Cases

A true bill was also returned against Chal Bell, negro, for first degree burglary. He is charged with burglarizing the home of Chief of Police K.L. Wilson of Hickory. A special venire of 40 men has been summoned to appear Wednesday for the trial of this case.

W.M. Prytle, charged with the murder of Pearl Childers, which occurred at Brookford, near Hickory, about two weeks ago, went on trial today. The jury was completed when court adjourned at 5 o’clock.
