The case of major interest in Superior Court here Thursday, Judge Calvert presiding, was that of Lawrence Jacobs, who is charged with the murder of Mack Whichard, a painter, who was found dead on the railroad track near this city. The state was asking for a second degree verdict as this newspaper went to press Thursday afternoon.
Jacobs, who is a young negro, was arrested in Greenville several weeks ago on information obtained from his brother, General Jacobs, who at the time was held for investigation on information that he was guilty of killing Nehemiah Pendleton, aged Weeksville merchant, but was freed shortly afterward of the charge.
