Son Duckery, colored, was bound over to Superior Court under a $500 bond this morning after probable cause had been found against him by Recorder P.S. Kornegay on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon and inflicing serious injury upon Neal Archie McEachern, colored, on July 15.
According to evidence brought out at the hearing, McEachern was sitting on the street playing a new saxophone and did not know Duckery was anywhere about when Duckery hit him in the head first with his fist and then with a brick. McEachern was knocked unconscious without knowing who hit him, it was alleged. He was carried to the Thompson Memorial Hospital, where he remained unconscious for 21 days, suffering with a cracked skull.
The defense tried to bring out that McEachern had been intimate with Duckery’s wife, but this was denied by the State.
Other Cases
--William Carlyle and Harry Melvin were each taxed with the costs on a charge of speeding.
--Walter Lewis, colored, convicted of stealing a 10-cent cake, was required to pay for the cake and was taxed with the costs in the case, $10.70.
