About a month ago the old cabinets and equipment in the Home Demonstration Kitchen at the Mecklenburg County Court House were hauled away because everything was so old and dilapidated that it was no longer usable. Now the kitchen is equipped with modern appliances and filled with white steel cabinets according to Helen John Wright, home agent. The equipment consists of a deluxe range, a number eight refrigerator with a 50-pound freezing compartment, a chest-type freezer, a table top hot water heater, a washer and dryer, an ironer, and a cabinet model sewing machine, and the rest of the space is filled with steel cabinets and a snack bar.
A.K. Sutton Inc. of Charlotte put the equipment in without charge and will replace it as newer models are developed. Sears Roebuck and Company will put the floor down and Duke Power Company engineers will design modern lighting for the kitchen.
“For 12 years we have tried to do efficient demonstrations and other work in the Home Demonstration kitchen and now we have no reason for not having efficient demonstrations” according to the home agent.
