The home was beautifully and appropriately decorated with silver bells and flowers. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter welcomed the guests at the door. They were then ushered into the hall where Mrs. W.C. Twitty and others presided at the punch bowl. From there the guests entered the dining room where cream, cake and candy were served. As the guests retired from the dining room each one was presented with a beautiful silver card, “Mr. and Mrs. Horace Lee Carpenter At Home Wednesday evening March ninth from eight until eleven o’clock, 1896-1921, and a silver bell tied to a jonquil.
Misses Martha, Eugenia Twitty and Fanny Dickerson served the refreshments.
Among the out-of-town guests were Mr. Henry C. Godney, New York City, Mrs. F.B. Johnson, Norfolk, Va., sister of Mrs. Carpenter, Mrs. H.N. Klupperlberg, Charlotte, and Miss Theo. Twitty, Lowell, N.C.
the guests retired after a most pleasant evening, all wishing Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter many happy returns of the day.
Mr. Ernest A. Carpenter of Newberry, S.C., formerly of this place, and Miss Lila Cunningham of Grier, S.C., were married in New York City recently at the church of the Transfiguration, better known as the “Little Church around the corner.”
Mrs. Carpenter received her education at Converse College, Spartanburg, and is a young woman of attractive personality.
Mr. Carpenter is the energetic son of Mr. And Mrs. J.C. Carpenter of this place and is engaged in the mercantile business at Newberry, S.C. Both have a host of friends who join us in wishing them joy and success in their new venture.
