Local Water Coming From "Safe" Wells, June 10, 1923

Glenburnie Wells Furnish All Water to Local Consumers. . . Rumor That Old, Forbidden Well Is Being Used, Is Proved Untrue

Rumors were current yesterday to the effect that the water which was being furnished to the water consumers here was not coming from the wells out at Glenburnie, but was coming from one of the wells out at the city water and light plant, wells that are taboo except in case of a big fire.

One lady asserted that she actually found dirt, pieces of pipe and other refuse in the water. Two or three gentlemen were sure that the water was not pure and they wanted to know why.

The New Bernian immediately made inquiry. Superintendent Godfroy, who is in charge of the water and light plant, stated that the report was an error, unfounded and absolutely false. He said that during the past week the consumption of water here had been almost doubled on account of the fact that the people here were watering lawns, etc. He said that an additional well had been holed on to the Glenburnie line, this being a Glenburnie well, he further stated that there were four wells at Glenburnie. To clinch his argument he said that an analysis of the water was being made every week and that this was on file at the City Hall and open to anyone.

Thus the rumor that the water being consumed by local water consumers at the present time is not all that it should be is found to be in error.

Superintendent Godfroy assured The New Bernian last night that at any time it was found necessary to use any wells except those at Glenburnie, the public would be notified at once.
