Catherine Yancey, Nola Gray Leave Home, Dressed as Boys, April 19, 1924

Durham Girls Missing

Durham, April 19—Up to a late hour Thursday no trace of Catherine Yancey and Nola Gray, the two young girls who left here Monday dressed in boys’ clothes, had been found. The girls left their homes without knowledge of their parents and no reason for their actions can be determined, it is said. The girls were reported to have been seen in Charlotte and to have headed for Asheville after leaving there, but there has been no substantiation for this information. The local police have notified the authorities of other cities over the state to be on the lookout for the girls.
