Winston-Salem, April 18—Will Brown, a negro 26 years old, alias Ezzie Steel, was sentenced in Superior court here this morning by Judge C.C. Lyon, presiding, to die in the electric chair for criminal assault, the prosecutrix being a negro woman about 20 years old.
It was the second time Brown had appeared on the present charge, both trials being before the same judge. In 1911, when Brown was 13 years old, he was convicted of criminal assault. Judge Lyon then pronounced sentence of 15 years in state penitentiary. After serving eight years of this term, Brown escaped in Goldsboro.
Since arrested here a short time ago, Brown as admitted that he is wanted in Lynchburg, Va., for murder, confessing to the killing of a negro man there in a brawl.
