C. Edney Barringer, well known citizen of this city, died Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock at Mt. Pleasant at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Willis Smith, whom he was visiting. Mr. Barringer died suddenly while sitting in a chair, following an illness of about two weeks.
Funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. Smith in Mt. Pleasant tomorrow afternoon at 1 o’clock and interment will be made in the St. John’s cemetery.
Mr. Barringer was 84 years of age and had spent most of his life in Cabarrus county. For eight years he had been making his home on South Spring street and the 12 years previous he had lived in Hickory, moving to that city from No. 11 township, where he lived on what is now the J.P. Cook home place.
Mr. Barringer served for four years in the Confederate Army, was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church, and a citizen interested in all phases of community life.
Surviving are his wife, one daughter, and one sister, Mrs. Jacob Dove of Georgin avenue, this city.
Mr. Barringer went to Mt. Pleasant last Wednesday and his condition had not been regarded as more serious until he was fatally stricken.
