Fire Destroys Machine Department at High Point Chair Plant, April 5, 1924

High Point Chair Plant Is Damaged. . . Blue Ridge Chair Co. Suffered Heavy Loss When Machine Department Was Badly Hit by Blaze

By the Associated Press

High Point, N.C., April 5—Fire of an undetermined origin destroyed the machine department and a part of the finishing room of the Blue Ridge Hickory Chair Co. here today. The loss is estimated at $30,000, with insurance of $12,500. S.L. Davis of High Point is President of the Company.

The blaze started in the machine room, and when the firemen arrived it had spread to the finishing department. The entire plant and adjoining factories were threatened, but several streams of water beat back the flames which eventually were confined to the machine room.

The finishing room was stocked with goods ready to be shipped today and the furniture not destroyed by fire was badly damaged by water.

Mr. Davis said the building would be rebuilt immediately.
