Instead of Fighting Mother Hound Adopts Baby Fox, May 1, 1924

Mrs. Dog Adopts Another Brand. . . Newton Grove Man Raises Dog and Fox Pups in the Same Family

Will the time ever come when the family dog and his wild brother, the fox, will lie down together in peace?

This is probably a question that has many times passed through the human mind. If anyone has ever had this thought, it is no longer a matter for question and meditation, but has become a real truth.

This new freak in the animal passion of the dog and the fox tribe is verified at the home of Mr. John H. Britt at Newton Grove.

A few days ago Paul Britt and Bob Allen Davis caught a young fox in the woods. At the Britt home was a dog kennel occupied by a mother hound and her several puppies.

The boys brought the young fox and placed him in the kennel expecting to see the wild and tame animals engage in a fight. However, nothing of the kind occurred, but instead only the warmest friendship prevailed.

when the old mother hound comes home to the kennel the little fox joins in gleefully and shares with the puppies the meal of milk from the hound’s breast. Nor is this all. When foxy’s face needs washing or his coat has become soiled, no partiality is used but instead mother hound in the dog’s way used her tongue and gives young foxy a face wash and a general cleaning up.
