400 Kansas Farmers Earn Certificates After Attending Kansas State Ag. College Via Radio, June 8, 1924

College by Radio

On June 10 the Kansas State Agricultural College will award certificates of graduation to 400 farmers who have completed the first course in a college subject ever offered by radio. The state college broadcast a curriculum including agriculture, home economics and engineering. The students who are to receive certificates have now passed a written examination covering the course.

By next fall it is expected that the majority of Kansas farmers will be equipped with radio sets. It is probable that the further radio extension course will be offered by the college.

This development in extension teaching is likely to continue and to include a wide range of subjects. University extension courses by mail have been both popular and successful. The radio, however, brings the remote student into close contact with the instructor because it permits hearing lectures directly. Eventually it should be possible to combine the radio and mail extension work in such a way as to permit very thorough instruction and successful completion of a term’s work.
