Mr. Alfred Morgan, a well-known resident of this section, and for many years a resident of Murphy, died at a private sanitarium in Atlanta Monday afternoon, May 26th, at the age of 69 years. He was brought to Murphy Tuesday afternoon and his remains laid to rest in Sunset cemetery, after funeral services had been held in the Episcopal church by his pastor, Rev. Alfred H. Stubbs of Asheville.
Mr. Morgan was a native of Macon County, having moved to Murphy about 35 years ago, where he was for a long time interested in publishing a local newspaper and doing general printing. Later he became interested in lumber operations in the county. At the time of his death he lived about a mile from Murphy on the Belleview road. He was twice married, his first wife being a Miss siler, a sister of Mrs. William Beal. She preceded him to the grave by about 21 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, R.S. Morgan of Waynesville and A.R. Morgan of Chester, S.C.; four daughters, Mrs. H.E. Freas, Mrs. John M. Barr, Mrs. Ben Warner, and Miss Lucy Morgan, and a host of relatives and friends throughout all southwestern North Carolina.
