The brazen effrontery of Rome has long been one of wonder to many millions of Americans. Therefore, it hardly can be said that the bold movement now being made by Rome to dig into the school funds of Michigan, came as a shock. It must be admitted, however, the “plan” as broached by those behind the movement, is a bit bolder than heretofore attempted—that is, attempted in the open.
In short it is now advocated in a circular letter that Roman Catholics pay nothing to keep up the public schools. In addition, the persons behind the movement believe that the state should pay the parochial schools $80 a year for each pupil in attendance at these schools. Would this not be a wonderful arrangement—for Rome? The audacity almost takes one’s breath, even when coming from Rome. . . . .
