Jackson County Promising Fun and Profit for Farmers July 23-24, 1925

Feast of Fun and Profit for Farmers Next Week

What is expected to be an epoch marketing event for Jackson County is the farmers’ Chautauqua, to be held in Sylva, July 23 and 24. A number of the state’s leaders among many lines of thought are on the program for the two days.

Community singing will be a feature of the event, and the business people of Sylva and Dillsboro are offering a premium of $25 for the best singing by a class or quartet, and $10 for the second premium.

A game of Indian Ball, on the second day, will be another feature. Arrangements have been made with two of the best teams from the Reservation of the Eastern Band of Cherokees to play at 3 o’clock on Friday.

Invitations have been extended to former Governor Cameron Morrison, O. Max Gardner, Clyde Hoey, Mrs. Edith Vanderbilt, and other state leaders to be present, in addition to the strong speakers that will be here from the state and federal departments of agriculture, from the State College, the Extension Service, and the University of North Carolina, and it is expected that many of these will accept the invitation and attend.

The committee on finance has completed its work, assuring the success of the Chautauqua, and permitting the central committee to announce that there will be positively no admission charge to any of the meetings, addresses or events.

The central committee, the entertainment committee, and others ae busy making all arrangements for the entertainment of the farmers and farm folk who attend and to assure that their attendance will be profitable to them.

With this beginning it is hoped to arouse all the people of this county to the great agricultural possibilities that present themselves in Jackson, and to stimulate interest in marketing profitably the products of our farms, orchards, poultry yards, and gardens.
