Enrollment today, the 3rd and 4th of the term in Lumberton’s high and grammar schools is 231 in the high school, 439 in primary and grammar grades, making total number of students so far enrolled 670. By tomorrow Supt. Crumpton expects the total number to equal or exceed the highest number enrolled last year, 678.

It is interesting to note that the number enrolled in the high school at the beginning of the third day is nearly double the number 118, at the first of the session last September, while the number enrolled in the primary and grammar grades on the 4th day is only 10 more than the 429 enrolled during the first days of the 1924 fall term.

Following is the enrollmentat the beginning of the fall terms for the past four years:

High School—

1924, 118

1923, 165

1922, 141

1921, 111

Grammar and primary grades—

1923, 489

1922, 425

The year 1923 holds the record for the grammar and primary grades, the number last year and in 1922 being only slightly less than the number this year. In the high school the highest previous enrollment also was in 1923, but was 66 less than the number enrolled today.

Beginning today and continuing until there is relief from the oppressive heat, the local schools will hold only the morning session daily, closing for the day at 12:30 p.m., according to announcement made this morning by Supt. W.B. Crumpton.
