Red Springs, Oct. 12—In the death on Thursday, the 8th of October, of Mr. A.B. Pearsall, Red Springs lost one of her most loved and valued citizens.
Coming to the town in the early stages, he soon became a leader in business and social life, helping to mold its growth in a wise and efficient manner. He served as mayor for a number of years and was untiring in his efforts to make Red Springs the location for Flora Macdonald College, and was a charter member of the board of trustees, serving in that capacity until his death, and was also chairman of the board of stewards of the Red Springs Methodist Church. Until a short time ago he was actively engaged in farming and was president of the Bank of Red Springs from the time of its organization until a year or so ago, when he was compelled to retire on account of his health. For a number of years he was extensively engaged in the lumber business.
A sound and conservative business man, of a winning and attractive personality, Mr. Pearsall was popular with old and young, and the impress of his life and character will remain a lingering and pleasant memory. He was a man of the highest character and standing in the community in which he lived, even-tempered, shorn of falsity, faithful to his friends and neighbors, and lived a life without blemish.
He was born in Raleigh July 1, 1858, a son of James and Martha Pearsall. He married Miss Sallie Hall of Fayetteville. She and four daughters survive him, vis Misses Georgia and Eunice Pearsall, Mrs. J.L. Duncan of Red Springs, and Mrs. Junius J. Goodwin of Lumberton.
Funeral services were conducted from the home on Friday afternoon by his pastor, Rev. B.D. Critcher of the Methodist church, assisted by Rev. A.P. Stephens of the Baptist church. The pall bearers were Dr. Roscoe McMillan, Messrs. L.A. Lentz, W.B. Townsend, D.M. McMillan, C.E. Leigh and W.M. Snoddy. Interment was at Alloway, and many and beautiful were the floral designs placed upon the grave by sorrowing friends.
Those from out of town attending the funeral wee: Mrs. W.H. Williamson, Miss Neta Williamson, David and Hubert Williamson of Gray’s Creek; Mr. and Mrs. James Pearsall, Judge and Mrs. J.C. Clifford of Dunn; Mr. H.C. Pearsall, Mrs. Winton Pearsall, Mrs. Geo. Springs of Fayetteville; Mr. Geo. H. Moore of Charlotte; Mrs. Julian Dew, Mrs. Margaret Roddick, Latta, S.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
