Judge Says State Game and Fish Laws Must Be Upheld, Oct. 5, 1926

Impressing the Law

Charlotte Observer

Judge Oglesby, holding Alleghany court at Sparta, was faced by two men charged with dynamiting and seining streams. It developed they had small acquaintance with the laws protecting fish from seiners and dynamiters, or with open and closed season, but the judge placed a fine as an object lesson. Judge Oglesby believes violations of the State game and fish laws can be curbed through effective punishment, and is governing his court accordingly.

The Winston-Salem Journal thinks he has set an example for other Superior court judges. People in other mountain sections will help that he has done that very thing, for it was only last week that The Observer detailed instances of wanton destruction of fish in streams recently stocked from the Balsam fishery.
