Pasquotank’s greatest acreage of early truck peas is up and doing fine, but whether the harvest will be any larger than last year is still problematical. It is believed that the acreage this year is 50 to 75% higher than last year’s, but there are discouraging reports of rot. R.C. Abbott, who handles the build of the peas shipped from this county, believes that the yield will not exceed that of last year when 94 refrigerator cars were shipped from this city. Mr. Abbott is making extensive preparations for the handling of this year’s crop and has built a big platform in front of his warehouse on South Water Street, from which platform peas will be loaded direct to the cars, saving hauling across town. The cars will be iced at Abbott’s depot.
Mr. Abbott shipped 65 of the 94 carloads of peas shipped from Elizabeth City last year and got big money for his shipments.
