Faulks school house in Marshville township was destroyed by fire Friday night about 9 o’clock. The building was a three-room structure and was equipped with patent desks. The loss is about $3,000 with $1,000 insurance. It is not known how the fire originated, but since school was not in session and there had been no fire about the building, its destruction is a mystery and some believe the fire was of incendiary origin.
During the past year or two a number of schoolhouses in the eastern section of the county have been destroyed by fire, among which were the Holly and Midway buildings, the latter having been burnt twice recently, and it is believed that these destructions have been wrought by enemies of the school. However, no clue to the burning of any of them has been found, other than that a horse’s hoofs were heard to pass the residence of a citizen living near the Midway building about the time the fire was discovered last winter.
